Distearate 150
thickener
It is a diester of stearic acid with 150 moles of ethylene oxide. It functions as a nonionic emulsifier for oil/water bases, stable in neutral, acidic, and alkaline systems. It is compatible with anionic, nonionic, and cationic surfactants and tolerates high electrolyte concentrations well. It appears as waxy flakes or lamellae, and its main function is to act as a thickener in shampoo formulations.

Practical Formulation Guide
Uses and Applications: Gels, serums, emulsions, and cleansers to control viscosity, suspension, sensory properties, or film formation.
Incorporation Method: Pre-disperse or hydrate gradually to prevent clumping. Some polymers require neutralization, and many are sensitive to salts or surfactants.
Dosage: Use the polymer-specific dosage and adjust in small increments until the target rheology is achieved.
Critical Points: Measure viscosity after complete hydration and again after 24 hours. Check pH, electrolytes, alcohols, and actives that may collapse the structure.
Good Practices: Perform stability and compatibility testing in the final formula. The supplier's TDS, COA, and SDS take precedence over any general guidance range.
