DESCRIPTION
SILICONE F
A low-viscosity, highly volatile silicone fluid. Provides good lubricity and emollience for skin and hair in personal care products. Provides excellent spreadability and gives the skin a soft, silky, non-greasy feel. Eliminates tackiness.
Practical formulation guide
Usage level: 2–8 % or up to 100 %.
How to use and incorporate: Add to the oil phase or at the end of the emulsion while stirring. Volatile silicones (cyclomethicones) are added below 40 °C/104 °F. Water-soluble silicones (PEG-dimethicones) are added to the water phase; silicone emulsions are diluted in the water phase cold.
Formulation tips:
- They provide slip, shine and a silky feel without greasiness; combine with light esters to adjust skin feel.
- Not all silicones are soluble in vegetable oils: run a miscibility test before formulating.
- Before scaling up, make a pilot batch and run a stability test (cycles at 4 / 25 / 45 °C/39 / 77 / 113 °F for 4 weeks, checking odor, color, pH, viscosity and separation) in the final packaging.
Compatibility: Compatible with esters, mineral oils and most emulsifiers; PEG-dimethicones are compatible with aqueous systems and surfactants.
Storage: Keep in tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place.
Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes; do not ingest.
